Can wind, solar and hydroelectric power sustain a 100% renewable grid? Researchers out of UCSD are challenging the findings of a key study claiming that a 100% renewable energy grid was economically feasible and achievable by 2050. The UCSD researchers assert that the original study failed to account for the full costs of such as system and that it would be "extremely difficult and unbelievably expensive" to build and maintain the infrastructure required to store enough energy from renewable sources to satisfy customer demand during peak hours.
