‘It’s Not Actually Happening’: Former DC Official Calls Out Cities Pledging To Honor The Paris Climate Accord

Mayors throughout the US are committing to the goals of the Paris Climate Accord. However, the real effectiveness of cities driving climate change initiatives has been largely ineffectual. Sam Brooks, who formerly directed the District of Columbia's Energy Division, notes that "it's difficult to identify much progress" in reducing emissions on a city-by-city basis and that much of the alleged "green advancements" are being portrayed through the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) which create an illusion of real green progress.
