As solar pushes electricity prices negative, three solutions for California’s power grid

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) predicts that if the build-out of solar continues at this pace, by 2024, California will have an overabundance of energy midday nearly every day. Midday surpluses already are driving wholesale energy prices into the negative and sparking discussions on how to best handle midday energy surpluses and evening deficits throughout California. Many environmentalists, academics and politicians believe that the quickest fix for California is to integrate its grid with the other western states.
